Learning Analytics – Hiking into Worlds of Data with Andrew Deacon and Michael Paskevicius

Andrew DeaconAndrew Deacon and Michael Paskevicius convene the Learning Analytics Workshop – Hiking into Worlds of Data.This workshop runs as a series of daily postings following themes in analytics. The focus is on supporting educational researchers wanting to develop new ways to collect, analyse and interpret data collected from environments where learning is taking place. The first week has a social media focus and the second looks at institutional learning contexts.



Michael PaskeviciusThe workshop metaphor is that of a hike – exploring analytics in a world open to learning. The workshop helps you prepare a backpack with freely available analytics tools. Examples of how others have used these tools are provided as hiking trail guides. Additionally you can earn badges to put on your backpack by sharing your accomplishments. Andrew Deacon is an experienced learning designer at University of Cape Town. He works in partnership with academics on a range of curriculum development projects and in involved with the use of analytics in education. Michael Paskevicius is a Learning Technologies Application Developer at Vancouver Island University and was previously a Learning Technologist at University of Cape Town.
